Dear colleagues and friends,
In co-operation with the UNECE Working Party on Land Administration, the Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Agency of the Republic of Bulgaria is organizing an international workshop in Sofia, Bulgaria. The title of the workshop is: Experiences with Data Management to Improve Land Administration in ECE Countries.
Background
Since year 2000, the Republic of Bulgaria has been implementing a fifteen-year program on creation of cadastre and property register in compliance with the newly adopted Cadastre and Property Register Act. Guaranteeing of ownership rights of the citizens through improvement of the cadastre system requires solution to a number of technical, juridical, financial, administrative and other problems. To a higher or a lesser extent, these problems and the policy tools required to address them relate to all ECE countries, but they are especially relevant to the countries in transition.
The venue
Sofia is the capital and largest city of Bulgaria. It is located in the western part of country at the foot of the mountain Vitosha, and is the administrative, cultural and industrial center of the country. The history of Sofia dates to the 7th century BC when it was a Thracian settlement. Sofia got its present name in the 14th century after the name of St.Sofia Church, which means wisdom. Nowadays Sofia combines cultural development and historical heritage.
